John Hunter Hospital is Newcastle’s largest tertiary referral hospital and one of NSW Health’s flagship facilities. With 796 beds, fifteen operating theatres, the busiest Emergency Department in the state, and designation as a major trauma centre for Northern NSW, the hospital delivers high-quality care to patients of all ages. About the role
This rewarding position will see you working as a multi-skilled member of the Operating Theatre team at John Hunter Hospital. As an Operations Assistant, you will provide essential non-clinical and ancillary support to theatre staff, helping ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of patient care.
In addition to supporting operating theatres, you may also be required to assist across the wider hospital campus as directed by facility management. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and integral to the smooth running of theatre services. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided to support your development and success in the role.
About you
We are looking for motivated and reliable individuals who enjoy working as part of a team in a dynamic healthcare environment. You will bring:
Previous experience as an Operations Assistant, or a genuine willingness to learn
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
Flexibility and availability to work a 7-day rotating roster
Willingness to work at short notice when operational needs arise
A positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential to succeed in this role.
How you’ll be supported
You will be supported by a highly experienced team, including Senior Operations Assistants and Chief Operations Assistants. Structured on-the-job training is provided and continues throughout your employment, ensuring you are well-equipped, confident, and supported as you grow in the role.
