The Role
The Nursing Unit Manager Level 1 (NUM1) is a leadership role with line management and clinical operations responsibilities for a designated specialist Custodial Mental Health (CMH) area at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre.
The NUM1 is an integral part of the CMH Nursing Management team. The NUM1 is responsible for local level planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of specialist mental health nursing services and overseeing the delivery of those services.
We are looking for a qualified health care professional with:
- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Tertiary qualifications in health management or working towards and/or combination of study and work experience.
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise and negotiate with clinicians, managers, staff, and other key stakeholders.
The position holder will work within Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network and NSW Ministry of Health policies, procedures, and guidelines as well as relevant Corrective Services NSW legislation, regulations, and policies.
Our Location and Service
The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) is a maximum-security correctional facility for male offenders and is one of 3 correctional facilities within the Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney. Inmates who arrive at the MRRC:
- Come directly from court on remand
- Stay at the MRRC while they attend court in the Sydney Metropolitan Area (before returning to their home correctional centre)
- Stay at the MRRC while they await a vacancy at a centre matching their classification.
Most offenders leave the centre within a few months of their arrival, usually because they obtain bail (and release) or transfer centre.
