About the Program
This is a two-year traineeship completed during Year 11 and Year 12. Applicants must be in Year 10 at the time of applying and commencing Year 11 in 2027. In partnership with TAFE NSW, Hunter New England Health offers students the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (HLT33115) while gaining hands-on experience in a hospital setting. Students will attend TAFE weekly during the school term and complete a minimum of 700 hours of clinical practice over the two-year program.

As Our Newest Nursing School-Based Trainee, You Will:
⭐ Help provide a safe environment and a high standard of care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
⭐ Perform basic nursing tasks within your assessed competence as you progress through the program.
⭐ Assist patients with personal care, mobility and communication needs.
⭐ Work within the frameworks, policies and procedures of Hunter New England Health, NSW Health and relevant legislation.

Important Considerations Before Applying:
🏫 School support is required – your application must be supported by your principal or careers advisor, who will also be contacted as a referee.
⌛ Time management is important – you will need to balance school, TAFE, work and personal commitments.
⏰ Punctuality matters – healthcare shifts commonly commence at 7:00 am and finish at 3:30 pm, so please consider your transport options.
🧑🎓 Due to high demand, not all applicants will be offered a position. If you are not selected, there are still many other pathways into nursing and healthcare.
