The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs. 

Exciting Opportunity to join the Mental Health High Dependency Unit Team on a Temporary Part Time basis working within the Nepean Mental Health Centre.

This position ensures that the physical, human and financial resources at the local level are managed effectively to meet the needs of patients and service demand The NUM acts as an advocate for consumers, carers and staff and promotes consumer involvement in care delivery The role and responsibilities of the NUM includes a duty of care to staff to ensure that there is a safe working environment and that staff are developed appropriately to meet the service demands and to realise their potential.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  2. Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing, management or working towards attainment or extensive demonstrated clinical experience in mental health care to perform the role
  3. Demonstrated skills in quality improvement/redesign projects and the associated change management
  4. Demonstrated sound financial skills with an ability to interpret financial reports.
  5. Proven ability to motivate, manage and develop nursing/midwifery staff to maintain a positive workplace culture.
  6. Proven ability to assess nursing/midwifery utilisation and resource requirements within agreed targets
  7. Demonstrated effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  8. Ability to travel within the LHD in accordance with the position.
