Prince of Wales Hospital - Nurse Educator Grade 1, Intensive Care Unit


Prince of Wales ICU is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral centre with added responsibilities for 3 quarternary services - Interventional Neuroradiology, Spinal Cord Injuries, and diagnoses requiring Hyperbaric therapy. Located in the new Acute Services Building, our ICU is a state of the art facility and our team prides itself on our inclusive and supportive culture. The role of the Nurse Educator is responsible for the development of education plans specific to ICU.

Nurse/Midwife Educator Grade 1 is the grade used for Registered Nurses/Midwifes holding post registration nursing/midwifery clinical or education qualifications relevant to the clinical area in which he/she is appointed;and who is appointed to a position of Nurse Educator/Midwife Educator Grade 1.


A Nurse Educator/Midwife Educator Grade 1 shall be responsible for the development and delivery of nursing/midwifery education courses/programs at the public hospital, or the community based service level.
Nurse/Midwife education courses/programs shall mean courses/programs such as:
  • Post-registration certificates
  • Continuing nurse/midwife education
  • Transition programs for newly registered nurses, newly registered midwives and newly registered enrolled nurses
  • Post-enrolment enrolled nurses' courses, and General staff development courses (where applicable).



Where you'll be working:

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. Qualifications:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia
  2. Recent experience in the development of practice
  3. Holding post registration clinical and education qualification relevant to the position
  4. Demonstrated effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate education and training programs
  6. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary adult learning principles
  7. Computer literacy and understanding of relevant information systems
