What you'll be doing
 

Leading and managing the General Surgery Department, providing contemporary comprehensive best practice specialist services for optimal patient outcomes. This includes leadership that optimises multidisciplinary and inter-departmental cooperation, to efficiently and effectively allocate and manage resources for best patient care. 
  
Providing and supporting training to clinicians across relevant disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice. This includes a lead role in accreditation of training programs, and in supporting the wellbeing of doctors in training.

Where you'll be working
 

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional referral, Level 5 base hospital providing a wide range of health services to residents in Northern NSW.  These services include a state-of-the-art Operating Theatre Suite, Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit, General Medical and Surgical Wards, Womens Care Unit, Paediatric Unit, Renal Unit, Emergency Department, Medical Imaging department and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.  Mental Health Inpatient Units, the North Coast Cancer Institute, Pathology, Pain Management Clinic, and Specialist Outpatient Clinics are also located on the Lismore Base Hospital campus.

Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Surgeon, and/or specialist international medical pathways
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience as a Senior Medical Officer in the discipline General Surgery, at a site with at least a similar role delineation to the NNSWLHD service
  3. Demonstrated recent leadership and management experience, managing staff, financial resources and equipment, with the ability to work with and develop a multidisciplinary clinical team
  4. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time [add/delete if appropriate]
