Position Classification: Staff Specialist
Salary: $262,376 to $354,479 per annum full time equivalent depending on experience

What you'll be doing
Leading, in collaboration with the DMS system-level improvements in clinical governance, medical workforce planning, digital transformation initiatives, and supporting medical education and training across multiple sites, including oversight of the junior medical workforce.

Where you'll be working
The Northern NSW Local Health District covers a large area in north-eastern NSW extending from Tweed Heads in the north to Tabulam and Urbenville in the west and to Nymboida and Grafton in the South. NNSWLHD provides a diverse range of public healthcare through 12 hospitals and multi-purpose services, 21 community health centres and other facilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region also including Murwillumbah District and Byron Central Hospitals. Tweed Valley Hospital opened on 14 May 2024. The new facility includes:
- more operating theatres and recovery spaces
- expanded emergency department
- enhanced medical, surgical and mental health services
- enhanced ambulatory care services including more outpatients clinics
- new interventional cardiology service
- new radiotherapy service as part of a new integrated cancer care service.
Murwillumbah District Hospital is a local community hospital established in 1903 providing a range of services including: Emergency Department, Operating Suite, Day Surgery, Medical and Surgical Inpatient Units, a Women’s Ambulatory Care Unit comprising Birth Centre, Antenatal Clinic and Gynaecology Clinic, and a well-appointed rehabilitation unit.
Byron Central Hospital provides a range of services including: emergency services, mental health, birthing and maternity services, and ambulatory and allied health services.

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Medical Administrator, and/or specialist international medical graduate pathways or working towards such eligibility, or equivalent qualification and experience as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award OR Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Medical Practitioner, and/or specialist international medical graduate pathways
- Proven ability to manage the junior medical workforce across distributed facilities, including supervision, pastoral care and performance
- Demonstrated experience in leading clinical governance, digital health adoption, and system-level improvements in a complex, multi-site health service environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of clinical governance and clinical risk management and demonstrated capacity to implement and maintain continuous quality improvement management strategies
- Sound understanding of contemporary Health Service issues and the proven ability to prioritise and effectively manage resources to address these issues
- Communication, negotiation, consultative and interpersonal skills, incorporating the ability to liaise and consult with all levels of the health industry, the community and various professional groups
- Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
- Availability and capacity to participate in Executive on call roster
