About the role
This role will see you provide flexible, holistic, and culturally responsive health services to Aboriginal families with children aged 0-8 years accessing health services. The New Directions team is a multidisciplinary team, made up of Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners, Social Workers and Dietitians. A key focus for the New Directions Program is to facilitate and foster positive connections between community and Health Services, and to partner with New Directions with Closing the Gap in health outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community members. The New Directions Team is able to offer flexibility in service delivery, making the program a unique and valuable service.


Where you’ll be working
Tamworth Community Health Service has the benefit of access to many community services, from early childhood nurses to palliative care positions, giving you valuable ongoing, day-to-day support from a whole-of-life team. In addition, we offer a thorough orientation, individual supervision, cultural supervision, access to education and training opportunities and service manager support to ensure you feel connected and confident in learning, developing, and delivering service to children and families in this role. You will have opportunities to support the team in connecting with community on Country in local and national events.

About you
In the role you will work directly with children and families by providing support, cultural advice & ways of working in allied health and nursing appointments onsite and within the community; and collaborate with clinicians, community members, and community organisations to deliver health promotion initiatives and education. This will suit an applicant with interest and/or experience working with children and families.

Requirements

•    Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
