Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position is primarily based at the Mental Health Centre, Nepean Hospital, and supports Older Persons Mental Health Unit with support extended to community mental health teams within the District. Applicants who expect to be eligible for Fellowship within 6 months and who have no more than one College-administered assessment to complete may be considered; if successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed. Successful applicants also participate in a District-wide after-hours roster that includes presentations across the age span.
This permanent position provides timely and need-adapted care to people presenting for specialist care within an acute mental health inpatient setting and community mental health settings. The role also includes consultation and liaison with Nepean Hospital. Successful applicants will contribute to team expertise across a range of therapeutic modalities and support key clinical decisions. There is an opportunity to develop as a leader within this role, as well as participate in quality and safety and scholarly activities relevant to the Service. The Mental Health Service’s Vision is that “All people of our District will be supported to live well in the community on their own terms.”

Selection Criteria
Possess or be eligible for: registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent as provided by the Health Insurance Act 1997; Advanced Certificate of Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; current NSW driver’s license. Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development and reflective practice.
Demonstrated expertise and experience in providing effective, high quality mental health services in a psychiatry setting; demonstrated commitment to person-centered, recovery oriented, family inclusive, trauma informed and need adapted principles of care.
Demonstrated ability to support and work in collaboratively interprofessional contexts that include lived-experience professionals; sound knowledge of psychiatry encompassing biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual domains. Expertise and experience relevant to the position.
Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication ability including capacity to communicate clearly, inclusively, and respectfully. Word processing skills necessary to complete expert documentation.
Demonstrated skill and commitment to the teaching and supervision of medical staff, non-medical colleagues, and students consistent with contemporary best practice; commitment to interprofessional learning.
Qualities, attitudes, and articulated values consistent with a senior medical practitioner providing mental health care to consumers across the age span and their social networks; and evidence of high ethical and professional standards.
Experience in or capacity for supporting quality improvement and clinical governance activities; and demonstrated commitment to high quality care provision in the public sector.
Familiarity with and support of basic, clinical, and applied research activities relevant to the needs of the Mental Health Service and its staff and the ability to draw on values and research concepts in the appraisal of evidence, guidelines, and quality improvement activities.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award
