The Supportive & Palliative Care physician will provide expert assessment and management of patients attending Drug and Alcohol Services with suspected or known end organ damage or other sequelae from their substance misuse which is likely to lead to a premature death. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a new service model which will allow full participation by patients in shaping their care. The growing average age of patients cared for by the Drug and Alcohol Service, the literature attesting to premature morbidity and mortality rates for the service’s patients to age matched cohorts, attest to the need to develop a patient centered response.
