Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Community Health Centres across the District within the Department of Primary Care and Community Health.

Successful applicants will be undertaking the following duties:

Clinical Work

·         Participate in the triage and review of new and existing outpatients in the community health setting. Patients will include those with developmental, behavioural, and general paediatric concerns

·         Participate in multidisciplinary reviews of complex or vulnerable families

·         Provide trauma- informed care to vulnerable families including but not limited to those in Out of Home Care.

·         Help improve health literacy i.e. the child and family’s ability to seek, understand and use health information and healthcare services.

·         Continue to maintain linkages back to the general practitioner.

Educational Duties

·         Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews and teaching with the nursing and allied health members of the Community Health and Paediatric team.

·         Provide teaching to JMOs when allocated to attend the clinics

Administrative Duties

·         Contribute to the development and review of guidelines, policies and procedures

·         Participate in weekly intake and triage meetings

·         Assist in recruitments to the department when required Quality Improvement, Safety and Research

·         Contribute to Quality Improvement (QI) projects, research, and clinical audits within the department to improve patient outcomes, and support JMO participation in these

·         Contribute to the provision of safe care to patients, including participation in accreditation activities and involvement in incident reviews 
 

The role includes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision. The Senior Medical Practitioner is also responsible for the maintenance of quality with all aspects of their service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. 

The number of sessions will be four per week undertaken in Community Health Centres across NBMLHD according to clinical need. There is no on-call work required. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians – Paediatrics & Child Health Division (General Paediatrics and/or Community Child Health) or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award.  Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in community paediatrics demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  4. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  6. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  7. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research as required within the Department. 

     

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award.
