An exciting opportunity is available for a committed and enthusiastic Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the expanding Child Youth and Family Mental Health (CYF-MH) stream in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD). This role is available in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH), a large and well-established interdisciplinary team which provides community mental health care to young people aged up to 17 years. Based at High St Penrith and co-located with Penrith headspace, the team aims to provide excellent community mental health care for young people with moderate to severe mental health issues, underpinned by evidence informed and therapeutic approaches.

 

Applicants who expect to be eligible for Fellowship within 6 months and who have no more than one College-administered assessment to complete may be considered; if successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed. 

 

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in this role will provide medical leadership within the interdisciplinary team. They will support the delivery of mental health assessments and management for the young people, empower families and care networks, participate in key clinical decisions, supervise and work with registrars and assist medical student education. The role provides the opportunity to develop, deliver and evaluate innovative care for young people and their care networks.

 

Location: Nepean Hospital and Penrith are easily commutable by train and road from central Sydney. NBMLHD encompasses the Penrith, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions. Selection Criteria

 

1.        Possess or be eligible for: registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent as provided by the Health Insurance Act 1997; Advanced Certificate of Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; current NSW driver’s licence. Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development and reflective practice.

2.       Demonstrated expertise and experience in providing effective, high quality mental health services in a psychiatry setting; demonstrated commitment to person-centered, recovery oriented, family inclusive, trauma informed and need adapted principles of care.

3.       Demonstrated ability to support and work in collaboratively interprofessional contexts that include lived-experience professionals; sound knowledge of psychiatry encompassing biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual domains. Expertise and experience relevant to the position.

4.       Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication ability including capacity to communicate clearly, inclusively, and respectfully. Word processing skills necessary to complete expert documentation.

5.       Demonstrated skill and commitment to the teaching and supervision of medical staff, non-medical colleagues, and students consistent with contemporary best practice; commitment to interprofessional learning.

6.       Qualities, attitudes, and articulated values consistent with a senior medical practitioner providing mental health care to consumers across the age span and their social networks; and evidence of high ethical and professional standards.

7.       Experience in or capacity for supporting quality improvement and clinical governance activities; and demonstrated commitment to high quality care provision in the public sector.

8.       Familiarity with and support of basic, clinical, and applied research activities relevant to the needs of the Mental Health Service and its staff and the ability to draw on values and research concepts in the appraisal of evidence, guidelines, and quality improvement activities.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award
