Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position (s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Medical Forensic Unit.

 

Successful applicants will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Medical Forensic Unit.

 

The position will work 40 hours per week and be required to participate in the on-call roster. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Possess Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine of the RCPA; or, Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine of the (RACP) ; or, Royal Australasian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; or, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1997 and Staff Specialists (State) Award, and evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  3. Sound clinical knowledge in the provision of medical and clinical forensic services to patients following sexual assault (aged 14 years and older) and Domestic and Family Violence, demonstrated by relevant qualifications and/or appropriate post-Fellowship clinical experience in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position, including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.  Existing demonstrated experience in the provision of medical and forensic assessments for children aged 13 years and younger is an advantage. However, if such experience is not already held, a willingness to provide paediatric services is essential and a commitment to undergo training to provide paediatric services is required.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  6. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  7. Preparedness to participate in the MFU on call service.
  8. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research as required within the Department. 

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014
