What you'll be doing
 
As the Visiting Medical Officer – Cardiologist (Electrophysiology), you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert, contemporary cardiology care. You will:
•    Provide specialist electrophysiology and cardiac device services, supporting the CIED roster and enhancing the region’s cardiac care capability.
•    Deliver best practice, evidence based cardiology care aligned with your training, qualifications, and scope of practice.
•    Participate in approximately 26 cardiac catheter laboratory days per year, supporting electrophysiology and device procedures.
•    Maintain CSANZ aligned standards by holding additional appointments to ensure sufficient procedural caseload.
•    Supervise, mentor, and educate junior medical staff and multidisciplinary clinicians to ensure safe, high quality practice.
•    Use clinical information systems to support sound decision making, accurate documentation, and effective care planning.
•    Collaborate with hospital and community based clinicians to ensure coordinated, patient centred continuity of care.
•    Contribute to clinical governance activities, including meetings, committees, accreditation, and quality improvement.
•    Maintain ongoing professional development and comply with all NSW Health and MLHD policy requirements.

Remuneration and incentives 

Remuneration depends on your appointment type, award classification, and scope of practice. The figures below are indicative only and represent what may be earned under applicable NSW Health awards and local arrangements.

Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Specialist 
•    Earn up to $275.85/hour (Specialist rate + practice rate)
•    Or progress to Senior Specialist VMO rates, earning up to $293.75/hour

Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) – Fee For Service & RDSP
•    Fee for Service and Rural Doctors Settlement Package (RDSP) arrangements follow the Visiting Medical Officer (State) Award and the Public Hospitals VMO Determination. 
•    Payments are based on item numbers, service volumes, and rural loadings rather than a fixed hourly or annual figure.

  1. Current medical practitioner registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia, with Fellowship of the RACP and/or other specialist recognition under the Health Insurance Act 1973. Meets criteria for training and maintenance of standards as an interventional cardiologist.
  2. Completed fellowship in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Devices with demonstrated experience in high‑volume implantation, including conduction system pacing, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, defibrillator, subcutaneous and leadless devices (highly desirable). Demonstrated experience in postoperative management, device programming, troubleshooting, and supervision of Pacemaker and Defibrillator Clinics
  3. Demonstrated high‑standard, contemporary clinical practice with the ability to adapt practice in line with evolving evidence‑based best practice
  4. Demonstrated commitment to delivering cardiology services in a rural setting, with the capacity and availability to participate in hospital service or LHD on‑call rosters as required
  5. Ability to meet the service objectives of a public health organisation, including commitment to community needs, efficient resource utilisation, and willingness to contribute to LHD‑wide service delivery
  6. Evidence of ongoing professional development, including continuing education, research and quality improvement, with a proven research track record and commitment to teaching and training at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff
  7. Proven ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, using strong information technology, written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
