About us
Hunter Valley Lower Mid North Coast Mental Health Service is a key part of the district’s Mental Health Network, delivering high-quality care to people experiencing severe and complex mental health challenges. The service supports people living with mood disorders, psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders and the effects of significant life events, always through a recovery-oriented and person-centred approach.
Our integrated model includes community-based mental health teams, a 24-bed acute psychiatric unit at Maitland Hospital and a 20-bed acute psychiatric unit at Manning Base Hospital. This allows people to receive seamless care from home-based treatment through to inpatient support and post-discharge follow-up. We work across Maitland, Dungog, Cessnock, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Upper Hunter, Taree, Forster, Gloucester, Bulahdelah and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast communities.
About the role
As a Mental Health Clinician - Level 3 within the Continuing Care Team, you’ll deliver assessment, intervention and care coordination in clients’ homes and community settings. This is a varied, relationship-based role where no two weeks are the same, and you’ll play an important part in helping people re-engage with meaningful life roles and strengthen their recovery journey.
You will:
- Provide assessment, intervention and care coordination in the community.
- Build strong, long-term therapeutic relationships with consumers and their supports.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives.
- Support people to maintain wellbeing and engagement in the community.
This is a hands-on role that requires adaptability, sound clinical judgement and a genuine commitment to recovery-focused care.
About you
You are a clinically capable and compassionate clinician who values flexibility, collaboration and person-centred practice. You’re comfortable balancing consumer autonomy with clinical risk, and you can work both independently and as part of a team.
You bring:
⭐Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental Health, Djirruwang Program), Nutrition, and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
⭐Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
⭐Strong communication and time management skills.
⭐The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
⭐Confidence in balancing consumer choice with clinical risk.
⭐A commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centred care.
⭐A flexible and adaptable approach to community-based mental health work.
Mental health experience is desirable, but a positive attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to apply core clinical skills in complex environments are highly valued. Many service-specific skills can be developed with the right supervision and support.
