About the role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Mental Health Clinician to join our multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care across acute mental health settings. In this rewarding role, you will provide brief, evidence-informed interventions for individuals experiencing mental health concerns, while managing clinical responsibilities including care planning, documentation and follow-up support.

Working with a high level of autonomy and clinical leadership, you will play a key role in ensuring consumers receive timely access to specialist mental health services and appropriate referral pathways. You will undertake advanced mental health assessments, triage and clinical decision-making, collaborating closely with consumers, families and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver recovery-oriented, person-centred care.

This role requires strong clinical judgement, ethical practice and the ability to identify and respond to complex clinical presentations, while contributing to ongoing service improvement and positive consumer outcomes.

Where you’ll be working

The Greater Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Lower Mid North Coast and New England North West Mental Health Services provide a broad range of support for consumers living with mental health conditions. Services include referral and triage, assessment, psychiatric review, medication management, psychotherapy and community-based supports.

You will join a supportive and experienced team environment, with comprehensive onboarding provided at the commencement of your contract, along with ongoing professional development and education opportunities. You’ll be supported by Team Managers, Clinical Coordinators, Service Managers and your Head of Discipline to help you thrive in the role.

About you

You are an experienced mental health clinician with strong clinical expertise, sound professional judgement and a genuine commitment to recovery-focused, person-centred care. You are confident working autonomously, communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and value collaborative multidisciplinary practice.

You will also demonstrate:
 

  • Experience applying professional and ethical boundaries when managing complex clinical situations within a multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to proactively engage with consumers, identify their needs and deliver timely, responsive care
  • Advanced assessment, triage and clinical decision-making skills
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and delivering positive outcomes for consumers and their families

Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental Health, Djirruwang Program) which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes which may involve driving long distances.

  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
