What you'll be doing
The following duties outline the purpose of the position:
- Regular quality assurance tests on linear accelerators, orthovoltage unit, HDR brachytherapy unit, simulator, CT scanner and other equipment associated with patient treatment within the department.
- Dose measurements on patients undergoing radiation therapy when requested by planning and treatment staff.
- Preparation of protocols for quality assurance programs for equipment and new treatment techniques within the department.
- Participation in the selection, purchase, installation, acceptance and commissioning of new radiotherapy equipment.
- Verification of treatment field calculations including individual patient's planning as required by planning staff.
- Providing clinical Physics advice to Radiation Oncologists and Radiation Therapists.
- Providing teaching and training to medical physicists, medical staff, radiation therapists and other staff as required.
- Planning and treatment of brachytherapy patients for HDR and eye plaque techniques.
- Individual and group research projects within the department as well as research by approved university students
- Safe work practices as recommended by management and raise any OH&S issues of concern with the relevant authorities.
- Masters of Science or PhD in Medical Physics recognized by the ACPSEM. Active enrolment in a Masters will also be considered.
- ACPSEM certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance. International candidates eligible for registration by the ACPSEM may apply. Candidates who have completed the TEAP written exam and expect to be certified within 6 months can also apply.
- Proven organizational skills and able to communicate effectively to work as a member of the Medical Physics group in the delivery of services in radiation oncology.
- A proven record of commissioning radiation oncology technology and implementing new treatment planning and delivery techniques such as IMRT, VMAT and 4DCT.
- Can work unsupervised in all areas of radiation oncology physics and able to work flexible hours including afterhours regularly.
- Eligible to hold an IA29 radiation licence issued by NSW Department of Environment and Heritage and hold an Australian driving licence.
