What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role of Medical Administration Trainee in the Department of Medical Services at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is to provide supervised medical management training and experience as part of undertaking the Fellowship Training Program of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA).
    
RPAH is a large quaternary public health facility based in Sydney, New South Wales, and is recognised as a world leader in healthcare excellence, innovation and research. The Medical Administration Trainee will work directly with the Director Medical Services and Deputy Director Medical Services in a range of medical management and administrative tasks, including medical workforce planning, junior and senior medical recruitment, clinical governance, project management and emergency management/disaster planning. 

Noting that the Director Medical Services has responsibility for the Medical Services functions at both RPAH and Balmain Hospital, the Medical Administration Trainee will also be involved in hospital operational activities at both RPAH and Balmain Hospitals, with opportunities to assist in incident management, financial planning, specialty college and National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standards accreditation. 
    
As one of the RACMA Candidate training roles across SLHD, the Medical Administration Trainee will participate in training sessions such as the SLHD RACMA Candidates Insights Session and other LHD Candidate sessions and have the opportunity to network with other SLHD RACMA Candidates and Training Supervisors. 
    
As a member of the Medical Services team, they will enhance clinical engagement and professional practice and standards, as well as a culture of respect for the individual, teamwork and continuous performance improvement.

  1. Current medical practitioner, registered or eligible for general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with at least three years postgraduate clinical experience, and with eligibility for enrolment (or already enrolled) as a Candidate of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators.
  2. Evidence of ability to develop across the continuum from novice to master, i.e. participation in term assessments and reports for new trainees, or RACMA-based reports for existing/past trainees.
  3. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to key areas of Medical Administration responsibilities such as quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, management and clinical governance.
  4. Demonstrated high levels of initiative, flexibility, time management and negotiation skills, with ability to work effectively as a team member.
  5. Demonstrated ability to gather information, analyse data and provide reports with appropriate recommendations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to a range of stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the CORE values of NSW Health, namely Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
