Where you'll be working
Maitland Hospital is offering an Intern Pharmacist position for 2027. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your career in hospital pharmacy within a supportive and structured training environment. This position will see you working within a supportive and highly skilled pharmacy team to ensure medication safety and optimal service efficiency. You will undertake many roles under the supervision of a pharmacist including obtaining best possible medication histories and clinical pharmacy reviews. You will also be involved with dispensing, preparing and distributing inpatient medications, dispensing discharge and outpatient prescriptions, and providing medication information and education to patients and other healthcare workers.
The Opportunity
As an Intern Pharmacist within HNELHD, you will complete a structured 12-month supervised practice program designed to support your transition to registered pharmacist practice while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
You will:
- Rotate through a range of pharmacy services across Maitland Hospital, including clinical, dispensing, medicines information and production areas.
- Develop clinical knowledge and skills under the guidance of experienced pharmacists and recognised clinical specialists.
- Work collaboratively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support the safe and effective use of medicines.
- Participate in education, quality improvement, research and professional development activities that contribute to both personal growth and service excellence.
- Complete the requirements of an accredited Intern Training Program and local intern education program.
- Contribute to departments that have a strong reputation for innovation, research and clinical excellence.
Maitland Hospital offers a broad range of specialty services including Critical Care, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, General Medicine and Oncology. You will be Supported by an experienced team of pharmacists, you'll have the opportunity to learn within a culture that values clinical excellence, education, innovation and research. You will be provided with education and support through a structured rotation program developed by the Maitland Hospital Intern Preceptor and the HNELHD Intern Training Program provided by the District Pharmacy Educator.

Requirements
- Bachelor or Masters of Pharmacy (or successful completion of APEC Stage 1 examination if overseas qualification). Eligible for registration as a Pharmacist in NSW on completion of intern training programme (ITP).
- Participate in weekend, public holiday and after hour’s rosters and do overtime as required.
