Are you an experienced communications technology professional looking to make a meaningful impact in healthcare? Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a highly skilled Senior Unified Communications Engineer to lead the delivery, support and strategic evolution of the communication services that connect our hospitals, clinicians and workforce every day. 

This is a key technical leadership role responsible for the lifecycle management, optimisation, modernisation and operational support of enterprise telephony, Unified Communications and contact centre environments across one of NSW's largest and most dynamic health districts. Your expertise will help ensure reliable, secure and innovative communication solutions that support the delivery of exceptional patient care.

 

As the Senior Unified Communications Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering, maintaining, managing and supporting fit-for-purpose Unified Communications services across the District. You will oversee the end-to-end management of enterprise telephony platforms, including PABXs, call centres, voice and carrier services, SIP infrastructure, call routing, voicemail systems, faxing technologies and mobile device services.

Working closely with ICT teams, vendors and key stakeholders, you will drive service improvements and platform modernisation, while ensuring communication services remain reliable, secure and aligned with clinical and corporate operational requirements.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Demonstrated extensive experience and a proven record of achievement in the delivery and administration of Unified Communications services in a consultive, subject matter expert and operationally focused capacity within a large and complex enterprise environment. Experience includes PABXs, VOIP systems, SIP infrastructure and trunks, call centres, H.323, faxing technologies, hypervisor platforms, DNS, DHCP, codec management.
  2. SCCA, ACSS, or an equivalent industry recognised Unified Communications certification or substantial demonstrated experience in supporting, maintaining and administering hybrid UC environments incorporating technologies from vendors such as Avaya, Cisco, Microsoft Enterprise Voice, and SIP based technologies.
  3. Proven ability to design, configure, implement, and support call centre features such as IVRs, call queues, routing logic, reporting tools, and workforce management capabilities with demonstrated experience in SIP based integrations between telephony systems and third‑party clinical, corporate, or communication applications.
  4. Demonstrated experience applying well‑developed UC analytical skills to interpret complex information from multiple sources, prepare and present clear analysis and reports, and develop creative, business‑focused solutions to challenges.
  5. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills with the ability to adjust and translate complex technical concepts and issues to match the audience’s knowledge level.
  6. Experience with delivering IT services in an ITIL aligned service management to provide capacity, availability, problem, change and incident management using service-delivery mindset and customer experience focus.
  7. Understanding of cyber security principles, privacy legislation, and ICT governance frameworks relevant to Unified Communications in a healthcare environment.
  8. Demonstrated experience managing large mobile device fleets and carrier services within an enterprise environment, along with a current Class C driver licence and willingness to travel as required.
