An exciting opportunity exists to join Royal North Shore Hospitals (RNSH). Maternity services in a permanent full time position within the Division of Women’s Children’s and Family health as High Risk Clinical Midwifery Consultant Grade 2.

Where you'll be working


The Clinical Midwifery Consultant-High Risk Pregnancy works as part of the multidisciplinary team at Royal North Shore Hospital and is responsible for providing continuity of care, coordination of care and leadership in the management of women and their families presenting with high risk pregnancies. The role requires strong organisational skills, adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and be responsive to meet the needs of these women and the organisation.

RNSH provides for complex maternity care in line with the Maternity Services Capability Framework as a Level 6 facility. The role provides leadership in the development and enhancement of midwifery and obstetric services. Participation in clinical research programs and teaching of staff and students at Royal North Shore is required. The Clinical Midwifery Consultant-High Risk Pregnancy acts as a resource person to provide high quality evidence-based care to high-risk maternity patients at Royal North Shore Hospital

The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC) is an expert midwife who will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of midwifery and consults on matters relating to the safe and appropriate use of midwifery practices.
The CMC will formulate and implement policy, guide practice development, and engage in education and research activities. The CMC is responsible for the provision of clinical supervision to midwifery staff and acts as a role model, providing midwifery care on a regular basis.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. A registered midwife who has at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the speciality field. In addition the employee must have an approved postgraduate midwifery qualification relevant to the speciality and hold a Masters pertaining to the speciality or is willing to enrol and commence a Masters in the speciality within two years of appointment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
