Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.

We are seeking to engage a dedicated professional to lead the delivery of efficient and effective Health Information and Records Services (HIRS). The HIRS Manager will contribute to the development and implementation of health care records policies, support strategic planning for records management, and ensure compliance with all legislative and policy requirements relating to privacy, release of information, clinical coding, and health records management.

The successful candidate will play a key role in guiding the hospital through the transition from paper-based to electronic health care records, driving innovation and best practice in information management. What you will bring to the role:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management as recognised by HIMAA
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing Health Information and Records Services in a tertiary hospital, including experience with patient administration systems and electronic medical records (eMR), and ability to provide professional advice and make sound decisions within a complex tertiary hospital environment.
  3. Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with proven organisational, consultation, negotiation and delegation skills, as well as demonstrated competence in preparing documents and reports, including analysing findings and developing recommendations.
  4. Effective staff management skills, including the ability to build, lead, and maintain multidisciplinary teams and liaise effectively with healthcare professionals across disciplines.
  5. Excellent communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities in organisation, consultation, negotiation, and delegation, as well as demonstrated high-level competence in preparing documents and reports, including analysing findings and developing recommendations.
  6. Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, standards and NSW Health policies and procedures relevant to health information and records management, privacy and medico-legal/release of information.
  7. Proven experience in financial and budget management, performance management, quality and change management, and business planning, with the capacity to design and implement strategic and operational objectives.
  8. Demonstrated ability to exercise creative and innovative solutions to improve service productivity and effectiveness, including the development, implementation, interpretation, and evaluation of health information management policies, procedures, and standards for high-quality customer service.
