Location:  Parramatta, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Community Health Centre

Where you'll be working
Join the Needle and Syringe Program across Parramatta Community Health Centre, Blacktown Community Health Centre and Mount Druitt Community Health Centre. You will work alongside dedicated Drug Health, Population Health and community partners to deliver culturally safe, accessible and responsive services.

• Work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team focused on improving health outcomes.

• Build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.

• Contribute to innovative health promotion, harm minimisation and Hepatitis C prevention initiatives.

• Support culturally safe practice and workforce development across relevant health services.

• Represent Western Sydney Local Health District at community, interagency and stakeholder forums.

What you'll be doing 
As the Health Education Officer, you will use your knowledge of Aboriginal health, harm minimisation and health promotion to develop initiatives that respond to community needs and improve access to appropriate care and support.

• Deliver culturally appropriate health education, harm minimisation and Hepatitis C prevention initiatives.

• Provide injecting equipment and safe sex resources in line with NSW Needle and Syringe Program Guidelines.

• Develop, implement and evaluate Aboriginal health education resources and community programs.

• Deliver education and in-service sessions that build workforce capability in cultural safety and harm minimisation.

• Strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal communities, service providers and key stakeholders to improve coordination and health outcomes.

Essential Criteria

• License:  Current NSW Driver’s License

Selection Criteria

• This is an identified Aboriginal position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent. Exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

• Certificate in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or equivalent and experience as a health worker / health promotion worker in the government or non-government sector with a willingness to undertake the qualification. Current NSW Driver’s Licence

• An understanding of Harm Minimisation principles and practices and experience working with marginalised communities within a Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) or a related health or community service.

• Knowledge of blood borne viruses including HIV, HCV and HBV

• Ability to work with people who inject drugs using a non-judgemental, empathic and culturally safe approach

• An understanding of Health Promotion and Community development principles.

• An ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

• Current NSW Driver’s Licence - Willingness to travel to other WSLHD sites or external sites as needed.
