About the Role
Hunter New England Health is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Clinician to join our Northwest Community Mental Health Team as the HASI+ Clinician based in Tamworth. The Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Plus is a high-intensity, transitional program that provides flexible support to clients experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, including those with forensic histories.
As the HASI+ Clinician, you will provide expert clinical input, program leadership, and coordination to support the recovery, stability, and independence of clients. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contracted community-managed organisations (CMOs), GP’s, case managers, and government agencies to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
This role combines clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including:
- Delivering individualised, recovery-oriented care to HASI+ clients
- Overseeing program operations, including referrals, assessments, transitional planning, and exit strategies
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced clinicians, building team capability, and sharing specialist knowledge
- Leading quality improvement initiatives and contributing to program evaluation
- Collaborating with external stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and effective service delivery
- Actively participating in professional development forums, workshops, and ongoing training opportunities
About You & Your Role
As the HASI+ Mental Health Clinician, you are a highly skilled and experienced mental health professional who thrives in complex and dynamic clinical environments. You bring a strong understanding of psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery principles, and trauma-informed care, with a proven ability to support clients with severe and persistent mental illness, including those with forensic histories.
In this role, you will provide expert clinical leadership and oversight of the HASI+ Program, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care. You will:
- Conduct comprehensive, individualised assessments and develop recovery-focused care plans tailored to each client
- Deliver evidence-based interventions that support client recovery, stability, and independence
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of the HASI+ Program, including quality improvement initiatives and stakeholder engagement
- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with CMOs, GP’s, Ministry of Health representatives, and other key stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery
- Mentor, support, and supervise less experienced clinicians, sharing your expertise to strengthen team capability
- Contribute to working groups, service development projects, and program evaluation to drive continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, data reporting, and compliance with NSW Health policies and professional standards
- Model the HNE Health Values Charter, NSW Health Code of Conduct, and culturally safe practices in all aspects of your work

You will bring:
- Experience in mental health, including psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery principles, and liaison with GP’s, CMOs, and government agencies
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, negotiate, and resolve complex situations
- Demonstrated ability to apply and share professional expertise to enhance team and program outcomes
- A proactive, problem-solving approach, maintaining ethical and professional boundaries while managing complex cases
- Experience in developing and delivering education for colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
- Ability to contribute to working groups or projects aimed at enhancing service delivery of the HASI+ program
- Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Dietetics, Counselling, or Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health – Djirruwang Program)
- Eligibility for professional association membership or AHPRA registration where required
- Minimum of three years’ experience in mental health, preferably including experience in forensic or high-support settings
- Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams and program oversight
