About the role
Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.
The Genetic Counsellor provides genetic information and counselling to clients and their families, organises appropriate genetic tests under supervision of a clinical geneticist / relevant medical officer and provides support to individuals and families to minimize the impact of a genetic diagnosis.

Ideal Candidate
- Holds an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. Science, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or other relevant discipline) with post graduate qualification in genetic counselling and board eligible with the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling (Human Genetics Society of Australasia) and a commitment to work towards full certification.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the provision of genetic counselling services and demonstrated experience in a clinical genetic unit.
