Fixed Term Up to 0.5 FTE Postgraduate Fellow
Department of Renal and Transplantation Medicine
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation Medicine.
Successful applicants will have sound clinical knowledge in nephrology, dialysis and renal transplantation and kidney pancreas transplantation demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
Successful applicants will also have familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying
The position will be for a period of 12 months, commencing in the 2026 Clinical Year (2 Feb 2026 to 31 January 2027).
Essential Requirements for Appointment
· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and the Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
· Sound clinical knowledge in Renal Medicine, Kidney, Kidney pancreas and Islet Transplantation demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Extensive clinical experience in managing complex chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplant patients
· Commitment to teaching and mentoring junior medical staff
· Commitment to clinical and/or basic science research in nephrology and transplantation
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Services Act 1997
Selection Criteria
Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:
1 Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2 Sound clinical knowledge in nephrology and renal transplantation and kidney pancreas transplantation demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
3 Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· High level interpersonal and communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.
· Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision
4 Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
5 Experience in caring for renal transplant and dialysis patients in the acute and chronic setting.
6 Experience in managing renal transplant immunosuppression in both the acute and chronic setting.
7 Familiarity with the diagnosis and treatment of complications following kidney transplantation, and patients with CKD and on dialysis.
