Successful applicants will have broad experience in the delivery of antenatal care, and superior interpersonal skills.
This position is being advertised for the current quinquennium period, which concludes on 30 June 2027. The position may be readvertised for the new quinquennium commencing 1 July 2027, and applicants are encouraged to reapply at that time.
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is seeking to recruit a General Practitioner (GP), Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) to support the weekly General Practitioner Shared Care (GPSC) antenatal clinic at Westmead Hospital. Appointment to this position is critical to maintaining and expanding the GPSC model of care, which provides pregnant women with the option of receiving high-quality, continuity-based antenatal care from a trusted General Practitioner within their local community.
The GPSC model plays a vital role in reducing demand for hospital-based outpatient appointments, improving access to care, and enhancing the patient experience through greater choice, continuity, and convenience. Continued investment in this model supports both service sustainability and the delivery of patient-centred maternity care across Western Sydney.
The role will:
• Assist in the antenatal care and care co-ordination of pregnant women allocated to the GPSC antenatal model of care. This is a low risk antenatal care model where visits are shared by a Woman’s GP and midwives and obstetricians at Westmead Hospital.
• Act as a liaison between GPs working within the program and Westmead Hospital midwives and obstetricians.
• Act as a liaison between WentWest and Westmead Hospital.
• Be responsible for co-ordination of the GP obstetric education program provided by WentWest and Westmead Hospital.
Essential Requirements
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Diploma of the RANZCOG or Certificate of Women’s Health RANZCOG. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Antenatal Care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
Selection Criteria
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Diploma of the RANZCOG or Certificate of Women’s Health RANZCOG. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Antenatal Care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:
· Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
· Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
· Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
· Must be prepared to make a meaningful contribution to a positive and harmonious workplace culture, have a demonstrated ability to take on a leadership/coordintaor role.
· Must have demonstrated capability to provide safe, high quality antenatal care to women of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
