"I’ve been a nurse at John Hunter Hospital for over 21 years, and from the beginning, this hospital has provided not only a supportive environment but also the opportunity to grow, lead, and evolve.

For the past four years, I’ve worked in various management roles, where I was encouraged to take on new challenges and supported to develop my leadership skills. Most recently, I’ve stepped into an ADDON (Acting Deputy Director of Nursing) role, which has given me a broader perspective of hospital operations and strengthened my ability to support both staff and patients across the surgical service.

What makes John Hunter truly special is the culture, collaborative, forward-thinking, and genuinely people-focused. There are real pathways here for nurses at all stages of their careers. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to step into something new, this is a place where you can thrive."

"I began my nursing career as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN), where I was welcomed into a supportive and dynamic team environment. After graduating, I returned as a Registered Nurse and quickly realised that John Hunter Hospital wasn’t just a workplace, it was a place to grow. With encouragement and guidance from incredible leaders and colleagues, I progressed to Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), and have since stepped into the role of an Acting Nurse Unit Manager.

Every step of the way, I’ve felt supported, challenged, and inspired. The opportunities for growth, combined with a strong sense of team and purpose, make John Hunter Hospital an exceptional place to build your nursing career.

If you’re considering your next step, I wholeheartedly recommend joining the team. It’s more than just a job, it's a place to make new friends and get onboard a journey that is worth taking."
