About the Role

The Manning Emergency Department is a busy department serving the wider community, including an influx of tourists during holiday periods. The Emergency Department Aboriginal Liaison Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring culturally appropriate and safe support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the local Biripi/Worimi Community. This role establishes open pathways for engagement and assistance, fostering positive health outcomes. The position provides caring and professional support to Aboriginal community members in the Hospital Emergency Department, often in stressful situations. Responsibilities include completing reception duties and registering all patients and visitors.

As part of the expanding Aboriginal workforce and Administration team, this position is integral to a dynamic, highly skilled team that values inclusivity, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to delivering excellence in patient care. The role operates on a fixed shift from 09:00 to 18:00 on a seven-day rotating roster. These hours are non-negotiable as they have been established to best support the Biripi Community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Comprehensive record-keeping in health-related systems.
  • Engaging with patients in the Emergency Department as required.
  • Collaborating closely with healthcare professionals.
  • Supporting the wider mainstream administration team, which consists of a minimum of four team members at all times, ensuring continuous support.

Manning also has a local Aboriginal staff network, including the Aboriginal Health Unit and the Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer, to provide additional cultural support and connection for both staff and patients.

The successful applicant will receive ongoing support and mentoring, along with opportunities for professional development in line with their career aspirations and qualifications. Additionally, working within a larger administration team ensures consistent guidance and assistance in day-to-day tasks.

  • Hardworking, energetic, and flexible, with the ability to work cooperatively within a team.
  • Honesty and a deep passion for providing care and support to those accessing the Health Service.
  • Proficiency in electronic systems and computer software relevant to the role.Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
