Where you'll be working 
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing 
Drug Health Community Counselling Services are designed to provide a range of counselling services free of charge, to people impacted by issues related to alcohol or other substance use. Services are patient centred, and trauma-informed and follow the principles of harm reduction. 
  
The Community Drug Health Counsellor is responsible for the provision of evidence based clinical services including intake, assessment, treatment planning, case management, counselling, group, and health promotional activities for clients referred to the Centre for Addiction Medicine, Mt Druitt, or other sites within WSLHD Community Drug Health as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualification: Tertiary qualifications in Counselling or a related field or other qualification deem equivalent 
     

 

Selection Criteria

  1. Bachelor Degree in Counselling or related field, and experience working with Drug and Alcohol clients.

  2. Demonstrated skills in providing evidence based intervention treatment for substance use issues and/or comorbid mental health problems.

  3. Experience working with clients in an individual counselling setting, an in facilitating group programs based on best practice and evidence-based treatment.

  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake comprehensive assessment and treatment planning for D&A clients.

  5. Experience facilitating case management and individual/group counselling interventions for alcohol and other drug using clients.

  6. Proven high quality written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills in building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships.

  7. Prior experience or exposure to crisis and risk situations and challenging client behaviours.

  8. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia and willingness to travel to and work from other sites across Western Sydney Local Health District.
