What you'll be doing 
As a Diversional Therapist, you'll play an important role in enhancing the recovery journey of consumers by delivering engaging, evidence-based therapeutic recreation and leisure programs within mental health inpatient units. You'll work collaboratively with consumers, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues to promote wellbeing, independence and meaningful participation.

 

  • Complete assessments and deliver person-centred diversional therapy interventions tailored to individual recovery goals.

  • Design, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic leisure and recreation group programs within inpatient mental health settings.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated, high-quality consumer care across the service.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, administrative records and outcome reporting in accordance with NSW Health standards.

  • Participate in clinical supervision, quality improvement initiatives, professional development and evidence-based practice.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification: Recognised Degree in Diversional Therapy. 

  • Registration: Eligibility for membership with the Diversional Therapy Association of Australia National Council. 

 

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience in developing, coordinating and evaluating diversional therapy interventions with mental health consumers in a group and individually or skills and competencies that are transferrable to a Mental Health setting.

  2. Demonstrates understanding of mental health conditions and their effects on individuals in inpatient mental health units, and supports recovery through the application of Diversional Therapy

  3. Demonstrates the ability to contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team, working both independently and in collaborative practice.

  4. Demonstrates effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills, computer and technology skills (including electronic medical records)

  5. Commitment to continuing professional education and participation in quality improvement, evidence based practice, and clinical supervision

  6. Current unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence with a willingness use for work purpose
