What you'll be doing
The MNCLHD District Women’s and Maternity Medical Co-Lead role is a fulltime Staff Specialist position providing both procedural and leadership key accountabilities. It is intended to partner with MNCLHD Midwife Manager: Maternity and Paediatric Services role to provide leadership for the Strategic planning and evaluation of Women’s and Maternity Service Models.    

The role will partner in the facilitation of strategic plans, models of care and the development of policy and procedures and monitoring clinical risk outcomes to provide evidence based and high-quality care.   

The District Women’s and Maternity Medical Co-Lead works in partnership with MNCLHD Women’s and Maternity Services to build a sustainable workforce and provide contemporary models of care.   

The position consists of 0.5FTE procedural and 0.5FTE Leadership to provide guidance on women’s and maternity services, while participating in a procedural and on-call clinical roster across the LHD.   


This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

  1. Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a category consistent with the role and responsibilities of a Staff Specialist Obstetrician.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in the provision of women’s and maternity care, including management of pregnant women with complex clinical needs.
  3. Proven experience in leading obstetric services and implementing maternity models of care across regional and rural settings.
  4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to engage effectively in multidisciplinary teams, promote reflective practice, and drive quality improvement.
  5. Commitment to high standards of clinical practice and the ability to adapt care in line with contemporary, evidence-based best practice.
  6. Understanding of NSW Health Tiered Perinatal Networks and maternity/neonatal service capability frameworks within NSW/ACT.
  7. Willingness and ability to participate in procedural duties and on-call rosters.
  8. Strong diplomatic and conflict management skills, with flexibility to travel within the Mid North Coast Local Health District as required.
