About the Role
The District Manager Aboriginal Workforce & Cultural Capability provides strategic leadership and expert advice to drive Aboriginal workforce development, workforce reform, and cultural capability initiatives across Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD). The role leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of Aboriginal workforce strategies, employment pathways, and cultural capability programs that support sustainable Aboriginal employment, retention, leadership development, and career progression.
Working collaboratively within established governance frameworks, the position oversees the integration of Aboriginal workforce initiatives across the employee lifecycle and leads the Aboriginal Cultural Capability function to strengthen culturally safe and responsive workplaces. The role supports the delivery of the MNCLHD Aboriginal Workforce Strategy and Action Plan, ensuring alignment with NSW Health priorities, Closing the Gap commitments, and relevant state and national frameworks.
Through strong partnerships with Executive leaders, Aboriginal communities, and key stakeholders, the District Manager drives continuous improvement and system-wide approaches that enhance cultural capability, promote workforce equity, and contribute to improved outcomes for Aboriginal staff, communities, and the health system.
This is a Full Time Permanent role based within the Mid North Coast Local Health District, with offices in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.
About You
You are an Aboriginal professional with extensive experience leading Aboriginal workforce development, cultural capability, and strategic reform initiatives within large and complex service organisations. Drawing on strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and program management expertise, you have successfully developed and implemented workforce strategies that embed Aboriginal perspectives, strengthen cultural safety, and support sustainable employment, retention, and career progression outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Your career has been built on establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities, Executive leaders, government agencies, and external partners to achieve shared outcomes. You can bring highly developed communication, consultation, and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence change, navigate complex organisational environments, and advocate for approaches that centre Aboriginal voices and lived experiences.
You have a strong understanding of government policies, legislation, and frameworks impacting Aboriginal people, including Closing the Gap priorities and Aboriginal workforce development strategies. Through collaborative leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement, you work to create inclusive, culturally responsive workplaces that deliver meaningful and lasting outcomes for Aboriginal staff, communities, and organisations.
