About the role and where you will be working
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Perfusionist Grade 4 to join the Cardiac Surgery Team within Surgical Services at John Hunter Hospital. This temporary part-time position 36 hours per week is available from February 2027until August 2027, offering the opportunity to step into the Director of Perfusion Service role and provide approximately six months’ leave relief. You’ll provide clinical leadership and support the delivery of high-quality perfusion services across the Cardiac Surgery Program, working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team.
You’ll be part of a close-knit team of four Perfusionists within the Cardiac Surgery Program, which has been operating at John Hunter Hospital since 1992. With cardiac surgery preparing to transition to the new Acute Services Building at John Hunter Hospital, you’ll be joining the team at an exciting time of growth and development. The new service will feature two dedicated cardiac operating theatres, theatres 20 and 22, located on either side of a dedicated perfusion set-up room in Pod 4.

About you

Comprehensive orientation and support will be provided by the substantive Director and/or Deputy Director of Perfusion Service, ensuring you feel confident stepping into the role.
Requirements
Minimum 3 years' experience managing an adult perfusion department with demonstrated ability to effectively lead a small team of health professionals. •
Certification as a Clinical Perfusionist with the Australasian Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or Overseas Trained Perfusionist who has been assessed by the ABCP to have qualifications, training and competence that are acceptable for recognition.
Ability and willingness to participate in an on-call roster and unplanned overtime
