About the role:
We are excited to be offering a Dietitian position within the Hunter New England Rural Reliever program. In this role you would embrace the opportunity to develop your Dietetics skills, working across different sites and services across Hunter New England, providing relief to clinicians undertaking annual or professional development leave.

The diversity of the caseload and client presentations means that you will constantly be learning and challenged. Across different sites, you would be able to work in various settings including inpatient, outpatient and community services. You would be meeting lots of new people and working alongside highly-skilled professionals, making an impact and shaping the future of rural health.

Where you'll be working:
The Allied Health Reliever Program is a unique program that was established in 2007 in HNELHD to provide leave cover for allied health staff in rural areas, especially sites with sole clinicians, to ensure that people living in rural communities receive continuity of high-quality allied health services. The program provides services for paediatric and adults in admitted patient, outpatient and community settings from the professions of Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Speech Pathology. Visit and work across rural and regional health sites across the district, with this being a great opportunity to explore amazing natural and cultural experiences.

The Relievers are managed by the Allied Health Directorate. The program includes services for paediatric and adults in admitted patient, outpatient, and community settings from the professions of Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, and Speech Pathology. Locum blocks vary from 1 week to a month, with time at your base site every 4 weeks to undertake administrative tasks, mandatory training, professional development, and clinical supervision tasks.

About you:
  • Have a passion for rural health and love providing high-quality care to get the best results for your patients.
  • Build rapport easily with clients, family members and your team members.
  • Are creative in your problem-solving, working autonomously but recognising when to reach out to your team.
  • Are flexible and adaptable in your approach to clinical practice.
  • Be a Dietitian with eligibility for membership with Dietitians Australia. To be eligible for level 3 appointment, you need to demonstrate 3 years of clinical experience.

How we will support you:
The successful candidate will be supported at each facility by a host site supervisor and a remote professional practice supervisor. The candidate will be supported by the broader rural reliever team and undertake monthly journal clubs and undertake internal and external training opportunities aligned with their own individual professional development plan.  The orientation plan will include rotations across all key sites and will include upskilling opportunities in any areas the clinician may not feel confident.

The successful candidate is supported by the allied health directorate which coordinates all bookings, accommodation, and travel and provides line management. One-on-one support and mentoring are provided at each booking site.

Additionally, staff will receive a period of orientation to learn local policies and procedures, and opportunities for upskilling in key learning areas will be scheduled throughout the year. Monthly journal clubs, annual professional days, and support to attend external professional development as well as access to online learning modules are available to all reliever staff.

What we can offer you:
At Hunter New England Health, enjoy a career where you're challenged by interesting work and surrounded by spectacular locations. You'll contribute to the team enriching health in millions of ways every day. On top of this we also offer:

  • Sustainable Healthcare: Together towards zero
