What you'll be doing
This temporary full-time position offers a 12-month traineeship as a Dental Assistant through the WSLHD Aboriginal Training Pathways Program. The role provides hands-on clinical experience while completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
Assist clinicians with chairside duties, dental charting, and patient care
Maintain infection control and sterilisation standards per WSLHD guidelines
Prepare and process instruments, radiographs, and dental equipment
Support day-to-day clinic operations, including patient greeting and room setup
Develop skills under supervision while studying toward a dental assisting qualification

Qualification: Minimum Year 10 School Education or above

Selection Criteria:
This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants, as permitted under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and be accepted by community.
Completion of Year 10 or above.
Demonstrated ability to manage both work and study commitments, with a willingness to undertake on-the-job training and classroom-based learning to complete a Certificate III in Dental Assisting within 12 months.
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and follow instructions to complete tasks.
Willingness and ability to work across multiple dental clinic locations within Western Sydney Local Health District, including Westmead and Mount Druitt Hospitals.
