What you'll be doing 
This temporary full-time position offers a 12-month traineeship as a Dental Assistant through the WSLHD Aboriginal Training Pathways Program. The role provides hands-on clinical experience while completing a nationally recognised Certificate III in Dental Assisting.

  • Assist clinicians with chairside duties, dental charting, and patient care

  • Maintain infection control and sterilisation standards per WSLHD guidelines

  • Prepare and process instruments, radiographs, and dental equipment

  • Support day-to-day clinic operations, including patient greeting and room setup

  • Develop skills under supervision while studying toward a dental assisting qualification

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Minimum Year 10 School Education or above

Selection Criteria:

  1. This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants, as permitted under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and be accepted by community.

  2. Completion of Year 10 or above.

  3. Demonstrated ability to manage both work and study commitments, with a willingness to undertake on-the-job training and classroom-based learning to complete a Certificate III in Dental Assisting within 12 months.

  4. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and follow instructions to complete tasks.

  5. Willingness and ability to work across multiple dental clinic locations within Western Sydney Local Health District, including Westmead and Mount Druitt Hospitals.
