What you'll be doing
As a Dental Assistant Grade 1, you will play a critical role in supporting clinicians and student clinicians to deliver safe, high‑quality oral health care to a diverse patient group.
In this hands‑on role, you will:
Assist clinicians and student clinicians during dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort, efficient instrument transfer and moisture control
Prepare, maintain and manage dental equipment, instruments and clinical materials
Apply infection prevention and control standards, including PPE use, sterilisation and waste management
Accurately manage patient information using NSW Health digital and oral health systems
Contribute to training, orientation and supervision of students, trainees and new staff, and participate in meetings and oral health promotion activities
Flexibility is essential, as you may be rostered across WSLHD oral health clinics or external care settings such as hospitals, schools or residential facilities.

Essential Requirements:
Qualification: Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent/current enrolment in the course.
Selection Criteria:
Recent, adequate experience as a Dental Assistant.
Demonstrated ability to assist the clinician in a four-handed environment, with a variety of dental procedures including general and specialised care.
Demonstrated ability to perform effective infection control procedures in all aspects of Dental Assisting.
Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in dental charting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
The ability to work in a large, multidisciplinary team, and be able to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including fellow health care workers and the general public.
Excellent organisational, time-management and problem- solving skills.
