An exciting opportunity to join South Eastern Sydney Local Health District!

The Palliative Care Team at TSH provides an inpatient consultative service and Supportive Care Clinics by assessing and advising, coordinating, planning, directing and evaluating the care of palliative care patients, covering both malignant and non-malignant disease. The palliative care team consists of a Palliative Care Specialist and medical team, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Registered Nurses. The team facilitates patient transfers to palliative care inpatient units when appropriate and referrals to the community palliative care teams.

The vision for Nursing and Midwifery at Sutherland hospital is to build a united team that provides compassionate care to our community through transformational, supportive and holistic nursing and midwifery. 

The primary purpose of the role is to provide patient centred palliative care for people with advanced life limiting illnesses, their families and carers. The role will provide a combination of direct, shared, consultative and supportive care across settings, in liaison with other palliative care health  professionals, and is expected to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Selection Criteria:
1. Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia, and current unrestricted Class C NSW Driver's Licence and willingness to use same as required for the position.
2. Relevant Post graduate qualifications in Palliative Care and at least 3 years recent experience working in the Acute Palliative Care clinical area, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans
4. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
5. Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient, carer and staff education.
6. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
7. Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation.
8. Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
