Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.
The Children's Short Stay Unit (CSSU) provides care for up to 32 paediatric patients in an inpatient environment. The unit has 28 isolation rooms and 2 double rooms. Patients admitted to CSSU will usually have a length of stay of up to 48hrs before discharge home or transfer to a long stay ward. Patients are admitted under a medical model of care, and are predominantly transferred directly from the emergency department for inpatient care. The patient cohort largely consists of respiratory presentations such as bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia & COVID, as well as common childhood illnesses such as fever, poor feeding, UTIs' gastroenteritis, meningitis and seizures. With such a widely varied caseload, CSSU can offer vast opportunities to advance your skill in Paediatric Nursing.
We have a fantastic team of fun and passionate nurses, including Clinical Nurse Education support 12hrs/day Mon-Fri & Nurse Practitioners 12hrs/day 7 days a week.
