About the role
Seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) – Violence, Abuse & Neglect to establish and develop a new service within our Emergency Department and across the hospital. Funded through the NSW Health Medical & Forensic Workforce Plan Enhancement, with the overarching aim of improving healthcare for adults and children who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect.
- Shape an innovative service that will build organisational capability, strengthen workforce expertise, and improve integrated pathways of care. The CNC–VAN will provide advanced clinical leadership and consultancy to deliver trauma-informed psychosocial, medical and forensic care.
- Focus on building internal capacity, developing sustainable models of care, and working with stakeholders across the service to embed best practice responses consistent with the Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse and Neglect (IPARVAN) Framework.
- Make a profound impact in the lives of vulnerable patients and help lead the development of an integrated, compassionate response to violence, abuse and neglect.
- Monday - Friday position (not a 24/7 crisis response service) with negotiable hours and no on-call requirements.
As a credentialled Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) the role will involve you:
- Collecting evidence, documentation, and trauma-informed follow-ups.
- Working alongside a Medical Lead specifically to support the integrated service development and delivery.
- Establishing protocols for early evidence collection in ED and supported referral to 24/7 NSW Health VAN crisis service.
- Delivering specialist education, mentoring and supervision to enhance workforce capability.
- Contributing to service development, clinical policy and governance to ensure continuous improvement and cultural safety.
- Collaboration with ED, inpatient specialties, Allied Health, community partners and the criminal justice system to strengthen coordinated patient care.
About you
- Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with AHPRA.
- Minimum 5 years full time post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time in the speciality field.
- Mandatory credential as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and able to practice independently, successful completion of EGAV Graduate Certificate in Adult Sexual Assault, supervised practice across a minimum of 3 crisis responses and enrolment (or prior completion of) ECAV advanced modules.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice as a registered nurse.
- Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to prioritise competing workloads within a complex environment.
