Where you’ll be working
Based in the Oncology Day Unit at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital, you’ll join a state-of-the-art cancer centre serving the northern half of Hunter New England. Opened in 2015, this purpose-built facility delivers a full range of oncology and haematology services in a warm and supportive environment. Armidale, set high on the picturesque New England Tablelands, offers all the lifestyle benefits of a regional centre with vibrant arts, cultural activities, and world-class education options.

Oncology Day Unit is a busy 8 chair/1 bed day unit providing treatment to adult patients from Armidale and surrounding areas with both oncological and haematological diagnoses. It runs Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. In addition to the day unit staff the unit also has a full time Nurse Practitioner and CNC and a McGrath Cancer Nurse four days per week.



About the role
As the Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1 – Oncology, you’ll provide specialised nursing care to patients across all stages of their cancer journey. You will carry out comprehensive assessments, apply diagnostic reasoning, and manage treatment-related complications in consultation with Medical Specialists. Working closely with Cancer Care Coordinators, McGrath Nurses, Allied Health professionals, and medical and nursing colleagues, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring timely access to care and a seamless treatment experience for patients and their families.
 



About you

You will bring recent experience in Oncology or Haematology nursing and ideally hold accreditation in cannulation. A compassionate and proactive nurse, you demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills and can work both autonomously and collaboratively within a small but growing multidisciplinary team. You are skilled at managing complex situations, including identifying and resolving conflict while maintaining professionalism. As a team player who thrives in a supportive environment, you are committed to delivering patient-centred care and bring strong communication and leadership capabilities, with the ability to work under pressure and provide guidance to colleagues.


Requirements

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in oncology nursing (or working towards)
