Where you’ll be working
The Forensic Mental Health Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Level 2 role works across Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) Mental Health Services, including both inpatient and community teams. You’ll also build and maintain strong working relationships with the Forensic Network, Justice Health, legal services, primary health networks and Community Managed Organisations to support coordinated care for people involved with forensic and at-risk mental health pathways.
About the role
As the central point of contact between HNELHD Mental Health Service inpatient units, community teams, forensic and justice networks, and legal services, you’ll support consumers with forensic and at-risk mental health needs through expert consultation, coordination and leadership. You’ll help ensure evidence-based practice is implemented, support KPI and reporting requirements, and strengthen partnerships that improve the delivery of forensic mental health care across the service.
This is a highly autonomous role that requires strong clinical judgement, excellent communication and the ability to bring together multiple stakeholders to achieve safe, consistent and coordinated care. You’ll be supported by the Senior Operations Nurse Manager, the MHS Rehabilitation Stream and an Administration Officer, with access to clinical supervision and further education opportunities as they arise.
About you
You’re an experienced mental health nurse who is confident working independently, building networks and supporting complex clinical pathways. You bring a strong sense of accountability, excellent time management and the ability to communicate effectively with clinicians, services and external partners.
You bring:
- Minimum 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration experience.
- At least 3 years full-time equivalent experience in mental health or forensic specialty practice.
- A postgraduate qualification in forensic mental health nursing, or willingness to undertake one.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes
- Strong communication skills and the ability to support colleagues, teams and services.
- Confidence in building new partnerships and maintaining professional relationships.
- Self-motivation, accountability and excellent time management.
