About the Role
This exciting opportunity comes at a time of transformative change within our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), now proudly operating as a district-wide service following a recent restructure. As a Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting a large, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering specialist, family-based interventions to young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will span both acute community and inpatient settings—including direct involvement with innovative special programs and quality improvement projects—requiring a strong clinical background, trauma-informed practice, and an ability to work seamlessly across different systems. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, social workers, dietitians, and speech pathologists, contributing specialist advice and driving forward initiatives that influence local, LHD, state, and national practice development.

Where You'll Be Working
You will be based within a dynamic and flexible workplace that spans the entire district, engaging with teams at various locations including the inpatient ward at John Hunter Hospital, new inpatient facilities in Tamworth, and multiple community sites. While you will have a central base from which to operate, your role will involve regular localised travel and active participation in both in-person and online meetings across the district. This position is embedded within a supportive leadership structure that includes weekly huddles, monthly leadership meetings, and close collaboration with senior colleagues from diverse disciplines—including a co-lead model with psychiatry and a dedicated senior clinical psychology role in education and innovation. Here, you will enjoy a collaborative, open culture that values feedback, continuous professional development, and a transformational approach to enhancing clinical practice and family-centered care.

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with current authority to practice with AHPRA who has at least 7 years full-time equivalent post-registration experience, with at least 5 years of full-time equivalent experience in Mental Health Nursing. In addition, must have approved postgraduate nursing qualifications relevant to Mental Health Nursing or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
