- Develops implements and evaluates care management plans for patients with complex health needs
- Provides leadership in the ongoing development of clinical practice

- Participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service
The Complex Care Clinical Midwifery Consultant (CMC) is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team at Canterbury Hospital, responsible for ensuring continuity, coordination, and leadership in the care of women and their families. In alignment with Canterbury Hospital's strong focus on continuity of midwifery care, this position plays a key role in ensuring that every woman has a dedicated primary midwife from the antenatal period.
The CMC will manage an antenatal caseload and work closely with the Midwifery @ Home service to provide postnatal home visits to their caseload of women. Additionally, the CMC will contribute to the development of policies and procedures, chair and manage meetings; including but not limited to the Multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) and perinatal loss meetings and offer support to midwifery students and newly practising midwives within the maternity service.
The successful applicant will work across all domains of the role, demanding a strong passion for woman-centred care, exceptional organisational skills, and the ability to adapt to and manage change. The CMC must be responsive to the evolving needs of women, families, and the organisation. A key aspect of the role is providing leadership in the ongoing development of midwifery and obstetric services while ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care is delivered.
As an expert midwife, the CMC offers leadership, advice, and recommendations on all aspects of midwifery, particularly in ensuring the safe and appropriate use of midwifery practices. The CMC will contribute to policy formulation, guide practice development, and engage in educational and research activities. Serving as a role model within the service, the CMC will regularly provide direct midwifery care to women, upholding the highest standards of practice and service.

Ideal Candidate
- Current midwifery registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
- Holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to the specialty or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
