What You'll Be Doing:

The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC) provides expert clinical advice to women, family, carers and other health care professionals within a defined specialty through the delivery of specialist consultant service. The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC), Quality and Innovation role is to review current evidence relating to maternity services, enhance continuity models of care and contribute to improving maternity care outcomes and experiences. The CMC will also develop outcome measures for evaluating success of models of maternity care, engage with stakeholders and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to maintain and contribute to high quality service delivery in line with current trends in maternity care.

The CMC will develop an action focused reporting and monitoring framework to support regular reporting of project activity and performance to the Maternity Division Quality and Safety Committee. The purpose of the role will be aligned with ‘connecting, listening and responding: A blueprint for Action – Maternity Care in NSW’ to ensure the maternity service is equipped to provide individualised care that is responsive to people’s unique needs and achieves the health outcomes that matter to them. The CMC will drive innovative practices in maternity care through consultancy, clinical leadership, research, education and clinical service planning. The portfolio will oversee the clinical business rule committee to ensure local business rules remain up to date with contemporary practices, are of high quality and evidence based.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Drivers Licence.
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field and post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
  3. Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in Midwifery practice.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  5. Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
  6. Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  7. Demonstrated skills in project management and quality improvement including competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
  8. Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
