Where You'll Be Working:
Be part of the dynamic and supportive Counselling, Violence Prevention & Response team in Child Youth & Family Services. You will be working with other strategic positions, counselling and violence abuse and neglect teams supporting children, young people and adults in SESLHD. The position provides child wellbeing and child protection  leadership, consultation and coordination to SESLHD services and staff. The position is based in William St Woolloomooloo, with some travel across the district. What You'll Be Doing:

The position is responsible for: 

  • Providing high level child protection & child wellbeing leadership, direction, advice and coordination in SESLHD.
  • Building partnerships within SESLHD and with other government and non-government services esp. Family & Community Services to meet legislative and policy requirements for interagency collaboration in child protection. 
  • Provide a coordination function across Local Health Districts (LHD) to improve responses to vulnerable children, young people and their families, particularly where concerns are raised by mandatory reporters via Child Wellbeing Units (CWU).
  • Acts as the key link between Child Wellbeing Units and LHDs in determining Health responses and in developing improved referral pathways where concerns have been identified about a child or young person’s safety, welfare and wellbeing.
  • The position plays a lead role in ensuring Local Health Districts’ implement policies and procedures in relation to ongoing changes to the NSW child protection system and in identifying emerging trends. This will include the provision of advice to health staff on mandatory reporter’s responsibilities and on the role of Child Wellbeing Units.
  • The position holder will be required to work closely with the manager and Assessment Officers of Child Wellbeing Units and will have direct access to the Child Wellbeing database.
  • The Child Wellbeing/ Child Protection Coordinator has a program content relationship with the Director Child Wellbeing NSW Health (located within Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network). Line managers of the Child Wellbeing Coordinators are part of a state-wide group advising on child wellbeing and child protection issues.
  • Changes to the key accountabilities and key responsibilities and workplan of the Child Wellbeing Coordinator will be negotiated by this governance group and will need to be in line with funding requirements of the position, any agreed key performance indicators and other reporting requirements of the Keep Them Safe program.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in the social sciences, social work or other relevant discipline, or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.
  2. Demonstrated high level skills, experience and use of high level professional judgement in providing responses to children and families in child protection and knowledge of health service delivery and referral options for these clients; including legislative and policy context.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to work in partnership and consult with key multidisciplinary and interagency stakeholders and ability to facilitate processes for flexible approacheds to service delivery.
  4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including interagency negotiation skills, ability to provide timely and relevant advice, analytical skills,negotiate and problem solve; demonstrated experience in working with Microsoft applications including Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  5. Demonstrated ability to undertake planning and evaluation related to child wellbeing and child protection at strategic and service levels.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage without direct supervision or with some autonomy, a diverse range of tasks, work under pressure, manage projects and meet tight deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of issues related to child wellbeing and child protection in priority populations including Aboriginal communities, CALD communities and in families with drug and alcohol and mental health concerns.
  8. Current unrestricted drivers licence, class C or equivalent.
