What you'll be doing
The Management of the Child Protection Unit at CHW provides leadership and governance to ensure excellence in the provision of child protection services at CHW and associated sites.

This position professionally reports to CPU Medical Head of Department at CHW and have a working relationship with the CPU Co-ordinator at The Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) to collaborate on strategic priorities across SCHN.

This is a key position in the multidisciplinary Child Protection Unit (CPU) at CHW, involving strategic and clinical leadership, planning and service co-ordination.

The CPU AH Manager develops strategies and policies to ensure quality psychosocial practice. The role is instrumental in the recruitment and development of a highly skilled workforce to meet clinical demands. 

The role is involved in service planning in line with SCHN strategic plan. It will ensure models of service delivery are responsive to client needs, utilise evidence based practice and promote the development of effective and collaborative working relationships with other departments and agencies.

Responsibilities include planning, monitoring and review of clinical services, supervision of team leader, social workers, occupational therapists and other allied health professions in the department. The position also involves education and training and participation in research.

In addition, this position oversees the work of the allocated health clinicians from the Joint Child Protection Response Program JCPRP).
  1. Tertiary qualifications in social work/ psychology /clinical psychology/occupational therapy and eligibility for membership of the appropriate professional association. Registration with the NSW Psychologist's Registration Board where applicable
  2. Demonstrated high level understanding of current child protection and child sexual assault service policy and practice and the needs of children involved in the statutory child protection system, including understanding of interagency roles and responsibilities in working with children and young people who have experienced significant risk of harm
  3. Demonstrated skills and experience in service planning, the development of models of care, leading and evaluating quality improvement activities and/or research and education provision
  4. Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision to senior practitioners
  5. Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication, consultation and reasoning skills necessary to ensure high clinical practice standards and build strong team and interagency practice
  6. Demonstrated experience in negotiation and liaison at senior manager level with key partner agencies on complex child protection issues.
  7. Sound knowledge of data collection, statistical analysis, report writing and computer skills. Experience in research.
  8. Capacity to share after hours and weekend on call duties

Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathwayEvidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.   

Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required.   

Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
