About the service:

The First Steps Parenting Centre is based at the Wallsend Health Campus, operating Monday to Friday 8 to 4.30. Our multi-disciplinary team includes Child and Family Health Nurses, Social Workers, a Paediatrician, and a Speech Pathologist, working together to provide holistic, compassionate, and person-centred care.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will become a key member of the PIPS (Programme of Initial Parenting Support) team, working closely with families to provide early intervention for vulnerable families experiencing ongoing trauma and adverse childhood experiences. This role offers educational and supportive services to help families set and achieve their goals over a three-year period, beginning from antenatal visits through to early childhood. Regular home visits, child development monitoring, and appropriate referrals to relevant services are integral aspects of this position.

In collaboration with social workers, you will offer case management support, including conducting home visits, monitoring child development, providing guidance, and referring families to services such as speech therapy or occupational therapy when necessary.

Additionally, you will contribute to the advancement of specialised clinical practice and service delivery within the program. Your role will include mentoring and supporting less experienced healthcare practitioners by offering guidance and direction. You will also provide specialised education on complex clinical issues to patients, carers, and the community. Ensuring families are well supported and informed about clinical interventions and service processes is essential, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health needs. Your advanced clinical skills and professional judgment will be critical in assessing, planning, organising, evaluating, and delivering high-quality, tailored nursing care.

About you:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated professional with post-graduate qualifications in Child and Family Health Nursing and extensive experience in this field. You will bring excellent educational and support skills, along with the ability to empower families to set and achieve their goals. Your collaborative spirit will stand out as you work alongside social workers and other professionals to deliver holistic care.

If you are motivated, positive, and eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable families, we encourage you to apply.

Requirements:
  • Holds a Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with AHPRA
  • Holds post graduate qualifications in Child and Family Health Nursing and at least 3 years experience working in Child and Family Health Nursing.
  • Current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.

Additional Information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary full or part time vacancies.
  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable local candidate is identified for the position; in this instance, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
