The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) Outpatients Clinics, Medical Day Unit and Vascular Access Team (VAT) serves as a key leader within the Central Coast Local Health District, responsible for managing patient services, nursing staff, and overall unit operations to ensure high-quality care and efficient resource use. Acting as both a clinical expert and managerial figure, the NUM oversees patient flow, financial planning, and cultural and change initiatives, all while fostering a safe, responsive, and patient-focused healthcare environment.

About the Role

This is a vital leadership role in coordinating patient care and advancing nursing practice within the Outpatients Clinics, Medical Day Unit and Vascular Access Team (VAT). This includes guiding multidisciplinary teams, integrating patient and carer feedback, and fostering a culture of inquiry to continually improve outcomes. The NUM promotes the use of evidence-based practice, stays updated on contemporary nursing methods, and ensures that all care meets professional, legislative, and policy standards as outlined by NSW Health and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

In addition to clinical leadership, the NUM is responsible for managing nursing staff and overall unit operations. This involves creating a supportive and empowering work environment, guiding professional development, and facilitating teamwork and performance improvements. The role demands strong oversight of human, financial, and physical resources, as well as active participation in business management, quality assurance, and key performance indicators. Through these duties, the NUM ensures safe, efficient health care delivery and alignment with NSW Health and CCLHD strategic goals and values.
