As a Vocational Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting young people with mental health challenges to achieve their education and employment goals through the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Trial.

This role offers you the opportunity to make a real impact, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of warm, dedicated professionals who are genuinely committed to supporting young people.


About the Role

As a Vocational Specialist, you will: 

  • Support young people to build their capacity and confidence to transition into employment or study through the IPS model.
  • Work closely with clinical teams, families, employers, and community partners to create seamless pathways to success.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and post-placement support to empower young people to achieve sustainable outcomes and develop independence.
  • Build strong networks with employers, vocational providers, and education services.
  • Collect data and contribute to service evaluation to ensure the IPS trial is effective and impactful.
  • Rotate across headspace Gosford, Lake Haven, and Wyong, as well as outreach within the community to deliver accessible, youth-friendly support.

About You

You are passionate about creating opportunities for young people and have:

  • Experience in vocational, employment, or related services, ideally supporting people with mental health needs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills across community, education, and employment sectors.
  • Recent relevant experience in the specialty area.
  • Experience working with young people in a supportive, strength-based and youth-friendly manner.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Confidence with data collection, evaluation, and compliance activities.
  • A current driver’s license and willingness to work flexibly across sites.
